Ancestry.com to purchases of footnote.com

Ancestry.com, Inc. issued a press release this morning announcing that it has entered into an agreement to acquire iArchives, Inc. and its branded site, footnote.com, for approximately $ 27 million. Monsieur acquisition is not totally unexpected and it still gives me pause; I love footnote.com and don't want to see it loses its usefulness, identity and continued growth in genealogy market the way genealogy.com did after it was acquired by ancestry.com many years ago. On the other hand, can experience with genealogy database marketing, advertising and branding, ancestry.com brings to the table just be what footnote.com must remain a key supplier of online access to historical documents from the u.s. National Archives. It will be interesting to see how this acquisistion (iArchives becomes a wholly owned subsidiary of ancestry.com) will change, or do not change the way the two sites acquire, digitise and disseminate Genealogy content.
